Ah, so US PSP's can update you just need to get the eboot from the sony site. If you want you can get it [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]. But you cannot update it through the PSP update.[addsig]

I think this is good news for the homebrew community. If 1.50 could NOT be hacked this 1.51 would not have been neccessary!! Now, does anyone have the JAP v1.50 eboot laying around to test if you can "revrese update" right from the stock files...[addsig]

Thank you for proving I WASN'T lying. I am not one to lie on forums when it regards something of this nature. I hate it when people go "Hey look! I got Zelda on my PSP! Oooh!". That really annoys me. Anyway, I don't think it did anything major. I mean it only updated it 0.01. What could that possibly do? Also, good idea bigmatty, I think if we rip apart this update and the last 1.5 update, we could better understand this $250 miracle.

Sorry about the many posts. I got excited...

I just tried downloading the V1.5 update and it downloads as 1.5. When I put it on my PSP however, it reads it as 1.51 and says that there is no need to update. So much for the downgrade idea...[addsig]

You know before I was actually thinking of region encoding in terms of hardware locks.

When you update a Motherboard's BIOS it doesn't replace the entire BIOS - just some parts. So you could have the update only change part of the firmware OR have the updater read what region it is and then replace it when the update is finished.

But then aren't their differences between the strength of Wireless between the US and JAP? Would that be controlled by the firmware or put into the hardware?

Found this with regard to wireless strength:

To anyone who wants to argue - this is just how I would do it. I don't mean to sound like a jerk or someone who knows what they are talking about!

He's not lying, I have also a japanese psp and the update checker says there's a new version and I need at least 14mb on my memorystick.

It's on IGN.com --> [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]

it's just a security fix, nothing spectacular.

I actually updated my psp to 1.51. It downloads the content to the memory stick, it's 14mb. After installation, you can safely remove the file from the memory stick. The PSP will actually warn you that after installing, there is NO WAY OF GOING BACK to previous firmware. I don't really need emulators and others on my psp, so I just went for the update with a good success.[addsig]
