The rules and our enforcement of them make this forum what it is. Without them, we would be exactly like every other PSP forum on the internet. They won't be relaxed. I've said it many times: I'd rather close the forums entirely than relax the rules. I agree that several of them could be considered anal, but people say that only because they aren't used to being expected to express themselves clearly on the internet. Would you consider the same rules anal in an academic environment? A professional environment? Probably not. Several of PSP-Vault's members post here solely because we have such forum rules.

"Govern itself" simply does not work, even on the internet; people cannot be expected to act properly when they face no consequences for their actions. The "gamer" community is particularly bad when it comes to things like "OMG i 4M L33T U GOT H4KK3D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lololol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!"

The ellipses rule is in place because most people don't know how to use them properly. People on internet message boards like to connect their thoughts with them, when in fact they should be using commas, hyphens, semicolons, or whatever. It's ridiculous to read a paragraph with only five sentences and to see six different places where someone writes .... It exemplifies laziness -- rather than thinking about what punctuation or grammatical structure they should actually use, they instead use ellipses. The result is other readers having to sift through someone's "brain dump" to piece together what they were trying to say.

Threads are locked for a variety of reasons, but longer ones are locked because discussion often becomes off-topic as threads get longer and longer. You should have seen a "Topic Closed" icon on every post in the thread (where "Quote this user" normally appears), so I'm not sure how you missed the fact that the thread was closed.[addsig]

In light of [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register], I've added a rule about private messaging. This is something that cannot be enforced unless administrators are notified, so if you receive a private message that you didn't ask for (and aren't interested in), please post the message and its sender in [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register].

And I will be verifying that the private message in question was actually sent, so please do not delete the message until instructed to do so. [addsig]

Jesus H. Christ on a crutch, I leave for a few months and come back to this kind of shit?! Excuse my Portuguese but has the Internet sucked more brain power out of our collective human brains?[addsig]

I think the rules need a revision, they were written in a sarcastic point of view and people tend not to appreciate sarcasm.[addsig]
