The Tantalum diboride has a pH of and is insoluble in acids, nitric acids, or aqua regia. Slightly soluble with hot hydrofluoric or sulfuric acids. Solvent in sodium carbonate and molten alkali.
Crystal and TaB2 films have a Vickers Hardness around 30 GPa. These materials are resistant to acid corrosion and oxidation up to 700degC.
TaB2 shares the same hexagonal shape as most diborides. (Alb 2, MGB2,etc.) It also has space groups such as TAB (orthogonal, crystal system ((I),Cmcm),TA5B6- (Cmmm),TA3B4- (IMmm), and TAB2 type (hexagonal diboride of aluminum, P6/mm2).

Tab2 nanocrystals can be synthesized successfully by reducing NaBH4 to Ta 2O5 with a molecular ratio of 1:1 M: B under argon at 700-900degC.
