Germanium Oxide GeO2 powder:
Germanium dioxid also known as Germanium oxide, is an organic compound that has the molecular formula of GeO2, and is one of the compounds from germanium. This inorganic compound is similar to carbon dioxide. The chemical formula for germanium dioxide (chemical formula GeO2) is an organic compound that is white in color or a crystal with a hexagonal structure. It is slightly soluble and insoluble in water. It is the primary commercial source of germanium. Germaniumoxid exhibits both basic and acidic qualities. If pure germanium comes into contact with the oxygen in the atmosphere, this layer forms. One type of crystal system, 1033 is the transition temperature. Used mainly in metal germanium production, but also in spectral analysis of semiconductor materials.
GeO2 comes in two forms: hexagonal and Tetragonal. GeO2 in hexagonal form has the exact same structure as that of b quartz. The germanium coordination numbers are 4. Tetra-GeO2 which is a soft mineral, has the rutile-like structure found in stibnite. In this matter, the germanium coordination number is 6. GeO2 in its amorphous form (glassy) is comparable to molten silicona.

Germanium Oxide GeO2 powder performance:
Germanium Oxide, a stable and white powder, is most often extracted from sphalerite zinc ores or lignite coke fly ash. Germanium concentrates can also be processed using a chlorine distillation technique that yields germanium chloride (GeCl4). Germanium Oxide in this form has a hexagonal crystal arrangement and it is easily soluble in water at approximately 4.5g per L (25degC).

How is Germanium Oxide GO2 powder manufactured?
Germanium dioxide comes in crystalline or amorphous versions. At ambient pressure the network made up of GeO4 trihedrons creates the amorphous structures. As the pressure is increased to approximately 9 GPa the average coordination number for germanium rises steadily to around 5 and the germanium O bond distance follows suit. Higher pressures result in a germanium coordination increase of 6 to reach about 15 GPa. The dense network structure is created by GeO6 octahedron. After reducing the pressure, the structure becomes a tetrahedral one. High pressure converts the rutile form to an orthogonal form, CaCl2.
To hydrolyse germanium trihydrate, you need to mix 6.5 times as much distilled water with germanium tetrachloride. Then, place the mixture in an open container for one night. This will generate germanium dioxide precipitation. After that, rinse it off using cold water. The germanium dioxide was dried at 200.
Germanium dioxide Uses:
Germanium dioxide can be used in many different ways:
Germanium dioxide's optical properties, including its refractive Index (1.7), and optical dispersion, allow it to be used for optic materials such as wide-angle lenses and optical microscope objectives.
Germanium, as well its glass oxide GeO2, are transparent to the infrared. This glass is suitable for infrared Windows, lenses and luxury cars. It also can be used for night vision technology and thermal imaging cameras.
GeO2 is preferred to infrared crystal clear glasses due its greater mechanical strength. This makes it more suitable for tough military applications.
As optical materials, waveguides and optical fibers use mixtures of germanium and silicon dioxide. You can control the refractive Index by precisely controlling the number of elements.
Germanium dioxide is used to make some semiconductor materials and phosphors.
Germanium dioxide is used in algal cultivation to stop the growth and reproduction of diatoms.
Useful in making germanium. You can use it as a raw material for germanium metal or other germanium compounds. Also, you can use it as a catalyst to make polyethylene Terephthalate resin. This can produce optical glasses phosphors and is used as a catalyst in petroleum refining, dehydrogenation or gasoline distillate adjustment. It also serves to make color films and polyester fibers. The glass made with germanium oxide, or polymerization catalyst, is also very useful in producing high purity metal germanium and germanium compounds. With the advancement of technology, germanium dioxide is used extensively in the manufacture of electronic devices and PET resins.
